Along with Motion UI, Google’s Material Design is also a popular trend, which undoubtedly will remain popular at least until the end of the year. Whether these will continue into the next one, however, is a question that only time can answer.

Semantic UI

Another UI that was showing great promise at the beginning of the year is Semantic UI. With the release of products like the Apple Watch and the Oculus Rift, it was clear for web developers that they will need to think of new designs that would fit these wearable devices. Supporting every screen, regarding of the size and shape, can be a bit challenging, but after all this is what responsive design is all about. The Semantic UI came with a new design framework, which really promised some great things, and so far it has not disappointed.

Polymer and ReactJS

Since developers have started moving more towards the reusable, dynamic components, it comes as no surprise that Polymer and ReactJS have really grown a lot in popularity. Although after their initial releases they did get some attention, it was not until this year that they really came as important parts of web development. ReactJS, the frame-agnostic library of Facebook, is known to use some fancy new techniques that can quickly build an interface. This is exactly what most of the web developers have been shifting to so far in 2015 so it comes as no surprise that more and more people are interested in what the library has to offer. On the other hand, the Polymer project is a much larger framework that allows the user to create client-side applications and incorporates mobile-ready design. It is extremely responsive, which makes it much more demanded.

More and more web developers have started building web APIs, utilized by their web app and by their native app. This is a new approach that was highly overlooked in the past, but finally in 2015 it managed to get the attention that it deserves. It was already a huge interest towards this trend in the beginning of the year, but the last couple of months are when the trend really took off. The increased popularity in the single codebase has also been influenced by the fact that it is a lot easier to maintain than others. Surely this is a trend worth exploring for all web developers out there.

Single Page Applications

Following the growth in popularity of more web APIs, it comes as no surprise that the popularity of single page applications has also increased significantly. Although in the past they were not quite popular amongst the web developers, now they certainly have gotten more attention. Thanks to the APIs trend, the maintenance and support of single page applications is much easier and smoother to do, which is why they have really taken off.

There you have just some of the few most popular web development trends for 2015 so far. Whether they will continue to dominate the market or we will see something new, the future holds the answer.
